2006 - Our Steve wins a prestigious prize!

You know our Steve? You know, the chap who makes the tea? Well, he's a bit of a dark horse when it comes to his archery. He says he is not very good and you would be forgiven for believing him if you have ever spent twenty minutes searching for one of his missed arrows (only to be told that he hadn't shot it!).

Well, he's gone and proven that he isn't such a bad archer after all! During May he attended the Worshipful Company of Fletchers Day for Archers with a Disability at the Royal Toxophilite Society's Shooting Ground at Burnham near Slough.

This is a national event with disabled archers of all classes competing in the Burntwood National Round. Although the weather was not too favourable, with rain for most of the day, the sun did make an appearance later in the afternoon and everyone had a good time.

Archers were given coaching in the morning and the competition round was shot in the afternoon. The coaching seems to have worked wonders for Steve who, I am proud to announce, went on to win the event with quite a few points in hand!

For his outstanding achievement, Steve received an engraved footed glass comport to commemorate his first place (see the pic below).

Steve says he had a wonderful day, made all the more enjoyable by the happy bunch of volunteers from both the Fletcher's and Toxophilite societies, both ancient and venerable archery organisations.

I would like to congratulate Steve on behalf of Worcester Bowmen for gaining first place in such an important event with such strong opposition, and thank him for representing Worcester Bowmen in a national event so well.

Now Steve, stop messing about and get the kettle on, I'm gasping!
